NFL Pro Bowler to Host Fishing Derby

WESTLAKE, OH (July 9, 2010) The Cleveland Brown’s three-time Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas will hold his second-annual “Joe Thomas Fishing Derby” on Saturday, July 17, 2010.  The event will be from 8am – 12pm at the Westlake Rec Center in Westlake, Ohio and is offered to the first 300 children, ages 6-16. Thomas, who is an avid outdoorsman and host of the television program Outdoors Ohio on Sports Time Ohio, along with a number of his NFL teammates, will help the children learn how to fish. Each participant will receive a free fishing rod, reel and tackle box along with a “Joe Thomas Fishing Derby” t-shirt and lunch. There will also be entertainment provided and prizes awarded.

The event is being held to benefit the “Passport to Fishing” and the Ohio Wildlife Association. “Passport to Fishing” is a program that trains volunteers to become Certified Fishing Instructors, who are then able to oversee Passport to Fishing programs for children.  Those unable to attend the “Joe Thomas Fishing Derby” but still wanting to help, can make donations to “Passport to Fishing” by contacting Mike Randall at 330-281-9887.
