Pierre Thomas Season Recap

New Orleans, LA (1/18/12) – In 2011/2012 Pierre Thomas was the feature tailback for the New Orleans Saints and he failed to disappoint. Thomas finished out this past season as a key member of the Saints rushing attack, which ranked sixth in the NFL in rushing yards. Thomas was sidelined this past weekend after a helmet-to-helmet hit in the Saints loss to the 49ers. Although he did not return after the hit late in the 1st quarter, Coach Sean Peyton has reported that Thomas is “Ok.” This season Thomas carried the ball on 110 attempts for a total of 562 and five touchdowns. He averaged 5.1 yards per carry and Drew Brees had this to say about his running-back, “He has taken advantage of every opportunity he’s been given. Nothing’s ever been handed to him. He’s earned it. I’ve never played with a guy who’s tougher, smarter, more versatile, just everything you’d want in a teammate.”Thomas’ season was highlighted by perhaps one of his greatest performances which came against the Detroit Lions in the Saints’ first round playoff victory. In the game he recorded one touchdown and 66 rushing yards on only eight carries. Injured in the same game last year, here were some of Pierre’s comments following the win, “It was sweet, I’m blessed to continue my career after my injury…After last year this win was great not only for me but the whole team.”

Pierre Thomas’ consistent play throughout the season helped lead the New Orleans Saints to a 13-3 record, the divisional round of the playoffs and the most potent offense in the league. Besides running the ball he contributed in the passing game as well. Thomas totaled 50 catches for 425 yards this season making a strong impact on offense. We hope for an injury free 2012/2013 football season and wish Pierre well in his time off.
