Yankees Gardner, Giants Nicks to Appear at Center for Disability Services Telethon

NEW YORK (JAN. 18, 2010) Brett Gardner, starting left fielder with the World Champion New York Yankees and Hakeem Nicks, wide receiver with the New York Giants, will be special guests at the 50th Center for Disability Services Telethon on Sunday, January 31, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Holiday Inn Albany. Both players will appear in the sports area and will meet fans and sign autographs. The specific times and details of their appearances will be announced soon.
Gardner, who is a native of South Carolina, signed with the Yankees in 2005, and made his major league debut in June 2008. He is considered the fastest base runner in the Yankee organization.
?Nicks, who was born in North Carolina, was the Giants 1st round draft pick in 2009. He caught a TD pass in four consecutive games and was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month. Nicks plays opposite wide receiver Steve Smith, who has been a special guest the the Center’s Telethon and other events.
The 50th Center for Disability Services Telethon will feature child representative Kennedi Banks, adult representative Matt Pezzula, and inspirational stories about individuals and families who use the Center’s programs and services.
The Center is known as the place where people get better at life.
?New for this special anniversary will be a radiothon with WGNA-FM 107.7 and WTTM 104.5 The Team on Friday, January 29. The radio broadcast will feature live and taped interviews, inspirational stories, and the opportunity to call in pledges. The all live, all local telethon is a community tradition in the Capital Region and it airs on WXXA-TV/FOX23 News.
